FAQ’s for Artificial Flowers
1. How to Care for Artificial Flowers?
To clean and maintain fake flowers, you can do the following:
- dust them regularly
- if they are very dirty, take a damp rag and lightly wipe each petal and leaf
- store in a dry place, such as in a plastic tote with a lid
2. How to Make Cheap Flowers Look Expensive?
It’s all in how you style them.
If you want your cheap, fake flowers to look high-end, you need to take the time to style them in a meaningful way. But it really doesn’t take much, I promise! To learn more about how to do this, you can read this post all about How to Style Faux Stems for a Realistic Look.
3. Are Fake Flowers Worth It?
People are going to have differing opinions about this. But, if you are looking for my opinion, it’s a resounding yes!
It does take practice to choose faux flowers that mesh with your decor and the aesthetic you are going for, but once you get the hang of it, it’s totally worth it.
Here’s why:
- Fake flowers last forever, meaning you don’t need to keep buying them year after year.
- You only need to buy them once, making fake flowers a budget-friendly option.
- They don’t need any care or attention.
- Faux flowers add texture, color, and movement to any space, especially rooms that don’t get any natural light.
- You can easily change faux stems around for the seasons.
4. What Are the Best Fake Flowers that Look Real?
Again, this is going to vary from person to person. The fake flowers that I think look the best may not be the favorites of someone else.
Truly, you can make just about any fake flower look real by taking care to style them in a realistic way.
But, my BIGGEST tip for this inquiry is to look for stems that have both buds AND flowers present on them. This will give you the most realistic look possible, like you just picked them out of the garden.

6 of the Best Artificial Flowers for Spring
Now that you know the in’s and out’s of faux flowers, let’s talk about my favorite picks for Spring.
The flowers below are the varieties that I use most often in my home for this season. I’ll walk you through why I like them and a few simple decorating ideas for each. Let’s get into them!
1. Ranunculus
These tightly-woven Ranunculus flowers ( P.S. you don’t even know how many times I had to check Google for the spelling of this!) are one of my absolute favorites, whether faux or real!
I have this variety of artificial flower in three different colors, enabling me to use them throughout Spring and Summer.
Below are faux Ranunculus in white.
If you know me, you know I cannot not use pieces from my vintage decor collections to style seasonal decor. This Spring, I was inspired by the light green hue of my vintage enamel teapot. I placed two stems of Ranunculus flowers inside, and boy do they shine amongst the green color palette!
To play with white on white, here I placed one Ranunculus stem in a pitcher from my milk glass collection.
Floral arranging, especially with faux flowers, is a super fun creative process and extremely rewarding!
Tip: If you look closely, you can see how the stems and leaves look kind of fuzzy. This feature makes faux stems look very real because usually, in nature, flowers have those tiny fuzzy hairs on them. So, when you are perusing artificial flowers, see if you can find ones that have this texture to them.
Here is the same variety of Ranunculus flower but in yellow!
I paired the yellow stems with a vintage blue ball jar. The two vivid colors together are striking, don’t you think?!
Try setting an arrangement like this on a bathroom counter or entry way table for a welcoming display!
Lastly, here is Ranunculus in pink!
I used a glass flower frog to get these stems to stand upright inside a shallow milk glass bowl. Paired with white and light green tones, the pink Ranunculus gives me all the Spring feels!
2. Poppy
Artificial Poppy stems are another favorite. I mean, nothing can compare to a field of wild Poppy flowers for miles but, when you don’t have that, faux Poppy’s will do.
Fake Poppy flowers come in a variety of colors but I chose the salmon colored variety for my Spring decor.
When you can mix two varieties of flowers together, especially faux flowers that are more ‘weedy’ looking, you can totally pull off a very real looking display!
3. Baby’s Breath
I adore the delicate, romantic look that these tiny white flowers exude.
Faux baby’s breath is extremely useful and versatile. It can be styled or displayed on it’s own in one large bunch or mixed in with other floral stems.
And, because the flowers are white, you can pair this flower with literally anything and it will blend seamlessly!
You can even mix faux baby’s breath with real flowers for a unique and sophisticated Spring arrangement!
But, for something more subdued, I simply tucked a few small stems into a jadeite tea cup and called it good.
4. Pussy Willow
These beauties are quintessentially Spring, aren’t they? When Pussy Willow’s start budding out in the wild, you for sure know Spring is here.
I love using faux Pussy Willow stems in my home for the season for many reasons.
These artificial stems:
- add a ton of height to those areas in your home that need it
- are pleasing to look at
- they are a neutral stem that pairs nicely with any decor
- truly look real!
I placed a tall Pussy Willow branch in a vintage crock on top of my mantel alongside some pink taper candles, milk glass candlesticks, and some bunnies for a simple yet striking display.
5. Tulips
Next up are one of the prettiest Spring flowers…Tulips! They are just incredibly lovely.
These beautiful blooms are at the top of my list when it comes to Spring flower favorites. And, not only are the ones below faux, they are actually ‘real touch’ Tulips, which is basically artificial flowers on steroids. Real touch stems do cost a bit more but I think it’s totally worth the investment.
The Tulips featured in this beautiful Ironstone pitcher are a new purchase for me this Spring. And, I have to say, they are, by far, the best artificial flowers I’ve ever purchased.
I love how the flowers themselves look as they are just starting to open!
For the Spring season, I set the entire bouquet atop a vintage plate on my dining table. Even though this might seem like such a simple thing, I always say that less is more, especially when showcasing Tulips!
For a different look on the mantel, I used another variety of faux Tulips that have a little more of a ruffled edge on the petals.
I simply laid five individual stems of Tulips into my milk glass banana stand and added a few vintage linens to complete the look.
Floral Arranging Tip: Simple is better! Let the flowers speak for themselves by using minimal pieces of complementing decor.
When using the same type of flower throughout your home, you can totally vary the varieties of said flower. However, to keep it all feeling cohesive, I recommend keeping them in the same color spectrum.
So, even though I used two different Tulip stems, they both exude hues of pink and white.
6. Cosmos
Last but not least on my list of favorites is Cosmos.
I love, love, love this flower! To me, this variety looks wild and carefree, like it was just picked out of a field of wildflowers.
Cosmos have such pretty, textured petals with the most gorgeous ruffled edges. These more ‘weedy’ looking flowers are the ones that don’t look perfect, making your displays look super high end and realistic.
For Spring, I placed the Cosmo stems inside my newly found milk glass vase.
Again, the Cosmos mixed with the Poppy stems create such a delightful display. Look at all of the movement that this arrangement emanates!
Tip: When arranging faux flowers, especially more than one variety, be sure to bend the stems in all different directions. This helps create a sense of depth and character.
Flowers out in nature are not perfectly placed or spaced, so your arrangements don’t need to look magazine-worthy, either.

These are all so pretty, Rachel! I look for real Ranunculus at the store all the time but I never see them. I’m excited to hear there’s a good alternative. I love the comos too! I’ve grown them in pots but have always been afraid to use them because they seems so delicate. I can’ t wait to try them now – we’ll be able to use them all year!
