This Valentine’s centerpiece with milk glass is beautiful and understated!
Real life over here you guys. It literally has taken me over two weeks to come up with any kind of Valentine’s decor. It’s been so stinking cold for two weeks straight and my creative juices have just not been flowing! But fear not…I have a Valentine’s centerpiece with milk glass amongst a few other vintage pieces to share today!
DIY Vintage Milk Glass Centerpiece on a Budget
For me, when it comes to Valentine’s Day decor, I like it to be as subtle and simple as possible. I don’t like to use red because it reminds me of Christmas, of which just was put away not even a month ago.
And, this year, I gave myself an added challenge of re-using pieces that I already had at home. I had to get super creative and was so tempted to go to the dollar store to get a few more things to add in but didn’t! Below is my process for creating this Valentine’s centerpiece.

Valentine’s Centerpiece With Vintage Milk Glass
Step 1- Shop Your House
I pulled out anything and everything that was in my house that could possibly be used for a Valentine’s centerpiece.
It started as a big pile of vintage. I pulled things like linens, Ironstone, vintage plates, extra fabric, and baskets. From there, I started weeding out pieces that didn’t quite feel like Valentine decor and curating the ones that did.
Step 2- Choose Linens.
Then, I used some of my vintage linens as a base. These linens in particular feel very light and feminine, which is the aesthetic I was going for when creating this centerpiece.
The lace tablecloth was found at the thrift store last year for around $2. The pattern on it is so beautiful and is one of my favorite thrift store finds ever.
And then, down the middle, I placed three linen placemats, recently found at an antique mall, to act as an anchor for the decor itself.
Step 3- Choose Decor Pieces.
Next, I started pulling in various vintage decor pieces. This step is basically trial and error, although there are some elements that I look for when putting together a centerpiece.
They include height, texture, and dimension.
I started with this wooden cake stand in the middle, basically using it as a riser to add height. On top of that I placed my beautiful milk glass bowl.
The detailing on the edges of this bowl almost looks like little hearts, which is perfect for Valentine decor!
I knew I needed to add in some color next, so I pulled out a pair of vintage plates. The pinks and purples on them are so pretty, giving me a lovely reminder that spring is on the way.
The scalloped edges pair nicely with the milk glass bowl as well as the lace. I placed the plates on either side of the cake stand for symmetry.
After that, I added the two milk glass vases, placing one on each plate. They both feature hobnail which helps to add texture to the display.
Step 4- Add Feminine Touches.
Last, I added in delicate touches. The fresh flowers were purchased a few weeks ago. They are still so pretty and thought they would bring some life to the centerpiece.
The wooden hearts and wood garland are from the DIY Farmhouse Valentine Decorations that I created last year.
I love the soft pink of the hearts. They bring color to the mainly white aesthetic. Draping the garland like a flat lay through the rest of the display adds some dimension as well as brings everything together.
I just love how the wood elements pair so nicely with the vintage glass. The use of vintage linens really helps to soften the display.
A Vintage Milk Glass Centerpiece for Valentine’s Day
Over the past few years as I’ve been creating centerpieces, I’ve learned that there isn’t a set of ‘rules’ to follow. It’s truly about following your heart and doing what feels and looks pleasing to your creative eye, not anyone else’s.
Through using different pieces of decor and playing around with items that you already have, you can create a stunning centerpiece.
Closing Tidbits
I hope my Valentine’s centerpiece with milk glass lights a fire within you to create a simple display for your table. This Valentine’s day, my wish for you is to love yourself because you are so special!

What a lovely Valentine centerpiece. I adore your milk glass and those dishes! I am always on the look out for pretty dishes near me and very rarely do I find any. How do I decorate for Valentines?
Usually with a table centerpiece and something on the front door Feb. 1 – 14th. Not much. 😉 Thank you for sharing this on Farmhouse Friday.
Hi Cindy!! I’m honored that you took the time to read and comment on my blog! I’ve been following you for awhile and I LOVE your content! Thank you so much for the lovely comment…I truly appreciate it! I found some more beautiful dishes last week that I picked up for spring and I’m excited to share those in a few months…I rarely find pretty dishes either and get SO excited when I find them!
You had me at “milk glass”. I use mine all the time and any outing that I can score another piece is a good time! Don’t know why it holds such a fascination for me, but it does. My Valentine decor has been limited to a door decoration and a red and white amaryllis on the kitchen table! Darn seasonal affective disorder!!!
Hi Kathy! Right?! There’s just something about milk glass that IS fascinating…it literally draws me in every time. I only pick it up if it’s a good deal…meaning like under $10! Thanks for stopping by and for leaving such a lovely comment! I do appreciate it!
Hi Rachel –
I can’t believe you got that table cloth for $2! Also, I love your wooden hearts. Oh, and those vintage plates . . . Thank you for sharing your ideas. Great inspiration.
Hello!
