Hello, guys!

This is a monthly series where my friend MaryJo from the blog Master’pieces’ of my Life and I share thrift hauls, thrifting tips, and general thrift shopping advice.

MasterPieces of My Life

My partner in this series, MaryJo, is sharing a thrifty post all about setting a thrifted fall garden table. After you are done here, head over to her post and say hello! You may find just the thing you are looking for.

A Guide for Thrifting Unique, Fall Items

Why thrift for fall home decor when there are thousands of options to choose from at retail stores?

Well, quite honestly, I just don’t like it.

First of all, seasonal decor from big box stores is over-priced. Second, it’s not high-quality. Usually made of plastic and coming from a far away country, these items are not sustainably made. Third, why buy what everyone else has when I can thrift something that is one-of-a-kind?

Secondhand shopping is not only eco-friendly but it also allows you to source fall decor items that no one else has, making your home completely unique to you.

When I thrift for seasonal decor, specifically for fall, I’m looking for vintage items that have been made to stand the test of time. Also, to get more bang for my buck, I like to purchase neutral items that can be used for multiple seasons.

Examples of these items include:

7 Fall Thrift Store Finds for Budget Decor- Thrift Haul and Styling Tips

I’ll be the first to admit that, when thrift shopping, many times I find nothing and walk out empty handed. And then, there are other times where I have a whole cart full. That’s the nature of thrifting! But… you guys. The thrifting god’s must be gracing my thrift trips lately because I’ve found such cool stuff!

I’m super excited to show you seven of my most recent finds and how I’ve styled them in my home for fall. Let’s get into it!

Fall Thrifty Find #1: Small Basket

One of my favorite thrifty ways to add texture to fall displays is through the use of baskets. However, baskets are extremely hard to store! So, whenever I come across a cute basket that is on the smaller side, I usually pick it up.

The charming basket below fit both of those marks and was just .99 cents! I don’t see this tall, narrow shape with the curved top often and I adore the two tone stripes. You can tell this basket is handmade because it’s not straight…it’s a little wonky and tilted but that’s what makes me love it even more.

For fall, I styled the basket on the shelf in my hall bath. I used many white and cream decor elements on the shelf so the basket provides some much needed warmth.

Fall Thrifty Find #2: Ironstone Creamer

Next up is this incredible ironstone creamer.

I’ve been finding this swirled pattern all over the place recently and I think it’s just so pretty! This particular creamer was found at my favorite antique mall for just $5.00!

See what I mean by purchasing decor items that are more neutral? This pitcher can be used all year round by tweaking it to fit the season or holiday. Think faux cedar stems for Christmas and winter, bright florals for spring, etc…Or, simply leave it as it is for a beautiful piece of collected ironstone.

For fall, I am using it in my hutch to add height using a few dried eucalyptus branches.

Fall Thrifty Find #3: Green Hall Teapot

I don’t know about you but green is a color that I love to decorate with all year long. Without green, I always feel like my displays and vignettes are missing something or fall flat. So, when I spotted this cutie green teapot for just $2.00, I couldn’t pass it up!

This is a HALL teapot, which is a highly collectible and well-loved pottery brand that was founded in Ohio in 1903.

The tiny little lid comes off by turning it so that the two white tabs match the indents in the lid itself.

It’s little details like these that make vintage pieces SO loved and cherished. You just don’t find items made like this anymore!

As I’ve said before, I always like to show markings if they are present on a vintage item.

This is what the Hall mark looks like. I was doing a little research online about this brand and learned that some items will have ‘Made in U.S.A.’ on them, like this one, others may not.

Fall Thrifty Find #4: Set of 4 Ironstone Plates

More ironstone! I’ve been on an ironstone streak lately and I. Am. Here. For. It.

You guys…I found this set of four matching plates in a small town thrift store for only $2.00. Do you recognize the pattern? It’s the exact match to the pitcher above. Can you believe it?!

I am using these plates in my hutch for fall and split them up into groupings of two. I used the first two underneath another ironstone creamer on the top shelf, adding in some fall accessories.

The other two were placed underneath a brown transferware vase with some fall faux stems.

Thrifted plates are great to use for adding height in a vignette and help break up surfaces. So, instead of placing a vase on the glass shelf and calling it good, the placement of a few plates underneath the vase adds another layer of dimension, creating a cohesive display.

These plates are made by Johnson Bros, a well known porcelain pottery maker from England.

For those of you who are looking for something similar, this is what the mark looks like.

Fall Thrifty Find #5: Vintage Barn Print

Look! Another barn picture for my collection! I love this one…it’s so perfect for fall!

When I’m styling my hutch for the seasons, I like to place a piece of art in the middle of the bottom shelf for some interest. It helps my decor to tell a story in a way and I’ve found that barn or countryside scenes are my favorite themes to use.

This barn picture is just a print on board but it’s still vintage and for only $2.00 I couldn’t leave it behind.

Fall Thrifty Find #6: Milk Glass Bowl

I think this is my favorite item out of the entire haul.

In all my years of sourcing vintage milk glass, I’ve not once come across this square pattern! It’s giving me mid-century modern vibes but I’m honestly totally digging it! I looked online for a while, trying to figure out this pattern, but cannot find it anywhere! Is it really that rare?! If you know anything about this milk glass pattern, please let me know!

As you can see, I placed my ‘new’ bowl next to the thrifted basket on the bathroom shelf. To style it, all I did was place a few vintage books underneath for some height and tucked a stem of faux leaves inside.

Milk glass is beautiful in it’s own right and wanted it to speak for itself. You don’t need much when styling milk glass for the seasons!

Fall Thrifty Find #7: Wooden Leaf Trivet

This last find might seem kind of random but hear me out.

I went to the thrift store a few weeks ago specifically to see if I could find a few wooden ‘risers’, if you will, to use in my hutch for fall.

So, as the story goes, I walked in, went to the first row of shelving, and literally this wooden leaf trivet was sitting right in front of my face AND for only $1.00…isn’t that crazy?!

I’m as happy as a clam with how it looks in the hutch styled amongst my fall decor.

So, if you are looking for something very specific that you think your local thrift store might have, let this be your PSA to always check! I saved about $30 in doing so.
