A whole spring vignette that cost almost nothing! Come see my latest thrift haul and some of the best thrift store finds for spring decorating. You won’t believe the total bill, either.

The glorious spring season has arrived and it’s the perfect time to refresh your home without spending a ton! Let me paint a quick picture of the season for us-longer days, open windows and the itch to mindfully re-decorate each space. And, that’s where thrifting comes in so handy! I’ve hit the thrift stores a few times this month and found some amazing decor pieces to style my home for just a few dollars. I wasn’t looking for anything super specific, but what I did find built itself into a whole spring story. Join me as a I share some of my best thrift store finds for spring!

The Short Answer

The best thrift store finds for spring decorating are items that bring in soft color, natural texture, and timeless charm — think vintage art, wicker baskets, antique books, old ephemera, and nostalgic ceramics. Shop with an eye for soft greens, blush, and creamy whites, and look for shapes like pitchers, compotes, and bud vases that style beautifully no matter the season. With an open mind and a $15 budget, you can build an entire spring vignette from secondhand finds that feel far more soulful than anything new off a shelf.

My Spring Thrift Haul: Budget Decorating Ideas That’ll Make You Want to Hit the Thrift Store

Well guys…spring thrifting around here has been s l o w  to say the least. Whenever I get a minute to swing through the thrift, it’s either super picked over or just filled with junk. Does that happen to you, too?? However, I’ve managed to curate a small haul to share with you today! And, I will say, the items that I did find I really truly love.

The spring season itself inspired this haul…colors of pink and green mixed in with neutral textures. My goal is always to source beautiful things for under $15 per trip, and I’m happy to report I did just that!

You truly don’t need to spend a fortune on brand new decor each time the next season rolls around. Thrifting enables us all to find timeless and one-of-a-kind pieces to use for many, many years without overspending!

Come on, let’s go thrifting!

What to Look for When Thrift Shopping for Spring Decor

When out thrifting or antique shopping for spring decor, you might wonder what types of items to be on the look out for. It honestly can be quite overwhelming at times because, everywhere you turn, there is just so much stuff. So, below are a few short lists to help break it all down a bit.

Colors and Textures that Say ‘Spring’

  • We’re all unique and like different things, but for spring, I gravitate toward soft greens, blush, creamy whites, and soft pinks.
  • Look for textures that feel seasonal: linen, hobnail milk glass, wicker, aged ceramic, or floral transfers on pottery.
Thrifting Tip: Train your eye to spot these fast so you’re not wandering aimlessly! The more you go thrifting or vintage shopping, the more practice it gifts you to spot the good stuff.

Shapes and Silhouettes Worth Grabbing

  • Forms that work beautifully for spring styling include anything with scallops, pitchers, lidded tureens, compotes, shallow bowls and bud vases.
  • The shape matters more than the color since paint and styling can transform just about anything!
  • What to pass on: For this season, you can leave behind overly dark, heavy, or ornate pieces that fight the lightness of spring.

The Haul: Best Thrift Store Finds for Spring

Okay! With all that knowledge, let’s get into this month’s haul! For each item, I’ll share what it is, why I purchased it, how much I paid, and how I’ve styled it for spring in my home. As always, this is meant to be a guide. Take what speaks to you and leave the rest!

Find #1: Pink Needlework Art

You guys know I LOVE a beautiful vintage art find!!

I actually haven’t found any good vintage art at the thrift store for quite a while. So, when I spotted this amazing needlework piece for only $2.99, I immediately snatched it up! The pink florals, complete with a blue and white chinoiserie bowl, is the most perfect spring decor piece. The original wooden frame is also super lovely…I adore the ridges and tone of the wood is absolutely glorious.

I’ve styled the art piece on the small shelf in my entryway alongside a vase of faux pink tulips. It’s the most cheery spring welcome!

Find #2: Lidded Basket

Next up is this incredible basket. I mean…how pretty is that?!

I’m always drawn to wicker baskets with handles for some reason…they just speak to me. But, when they also have an intact lid?! Now that’s next level cool.

Baskets are a staple in my decor. I use them all year round for decorating, and for practical purposes such as storage, too. When I find pretty ones for a good price, they usually come home with me. This basket, priced at just $2.99, checked all the boxes and is in perfect condition!

After I got it home and cleaned it really well, I walked around my house looking for a few potential places to use it.

I had a couple of decorating options in mind, but then I remembered that I had been looking for another basket to hold extra towels in my bathroom. So, that’s just what I did and it works beautifully. Functional and practical yet adds such a grounding, earthy texture to an otherwise boring closet.

Baskets, man! Highly recommend for bringing natural textures to any room.

Find #3: Antique Book

Another decor item that I collect, and which I haven’t found for a while, are antique and vintage books!

Old books are getting harder and harder to find, and for decent prices. I actually found this book from a re-sale shop near my house. The owner basically buys out estates and then sells the items in her shop. She always has some very lovely things.

Anyways, her book selection is always really good. I happened to purchase this blue/green colored one (with a linen cover) there a few weeks ago for $3.00. Such an amazing price for a pretty book!

I styled my ‘new’ book on the mantel for spring.

The moody color works well with my pink and green decor and helps to add interest to this side of the mantel. My favorite way to decorate with old books is to pair them with vintage milk glass and ironstone. There’s just something about that combination that I just adore!

Find #4: Antique Easter Postcard

And then, from the same store as the book, I also found my very first antique Easter postcard! Antique and vintage ephemera is always super special for me to collect. These paper finds are extremely old yet here they are, still withstanding the test of time.

I couldn’t believe this when I saw it…it’s literally the exact pink and green colors that I am using in my home for spring AND there’s a barn in the background. Besides that, the postcard was just $2.00. It was meant to be!

For the Easter season, I placed the postcard in one of my pokey flower frogs inside the hutch. It’s just the most precious piece of decor and really ties the whole display together.

Find #5: Restaurantware Mug

The last find on the list today is a super cool, super hefty restaurantware (or diner) mug that I scored for just .99 cents!

I just love these things…they are so heavy and feel extremely sturdy in your hand. Though very much on the small side (I feel like that’s how diners made money on cheap coffee…they just kept re-filling a tiny 10 oz mug!), there’s just something about these old mugs that is super nostalgic.

This mug is stamped ‘Victor’ on the bottom and, from what I can tell, this brand fetches quite the price online.

I buy these mugs for decorating but hubby and I also do use them for coffee!

Currently, I have it in our coffee mug rotation. Our kitchen is very much cottage-style, so I feel like the mis-matched, thrifted mugs fit that aesthetic perfectly.

Budget Breakdown: What I Spent

So, how much did I spend on all my thrifted finds? Remember what I said at the beginning…I try and keep each thrifting trip to $15 or under. Here’s the breakdown.

The Full Tally

  • Needlework Art- $ 2.99
  • Lidded Basket- $2.99
  • Antique Book- $3.00
  • Easter Postcard- $2.00
  • Diner Mug- $.99

Which is a grand total of: $11.97

Incredible, right?!

Why Secondhand Always Wins on Price

Thrifted decor items ALWAYS win out when it comes to price. These same items new, or from a boutique home store, would probably cost at least quadruple per each item. With thrifted and vintage pieces, you get the low price and the timeless character.

Beautiful spring decor doesn’t require a big budget, just a good eye! Go in with an open mind and see what you can find for just a dollar or two. The more you go thrifting, the more your vintage radar will go off, enabling you to decorate a beautiful home for the season for very little money.

Also, I’ve been thrifting for over a decade and, with that, has come the practice of knowing what things are worth. I can tell you all day long what are fair prices to pay for certain things, but when it comes down it, this is just a practice, and hobby, of doing. You have to go and do and tangibly learn. That’s all there is to it!

Beauty Over Budget: Why Thrifted Spring Decor Just Feels Different

I’ve said this so many times before, but pre-loved items carry a warmth and character that new decor simply cannot replicate. I want to invite you into that feeling-wondering where a piece has been, where it originated, or who loved it before.

That’s the part of vintage that I just love so incredibly much. Not only does it allow for a home that’s full of soul and spirit, but you are also carrying on a legacy. And that, my friends, is something to be proud of.

Sustainability as a Styling Philosophy

Here at The Antiqued Journey, we’re all about living sustainably. And, choosing to shop secondhand is a vote for the planet!

Thrifting is one of the best, and easiest, ways I know of to help take care of our Earth. Through buying used, not only is it helping your wallet, but it also helps to reduce carbon emissions and excess waste.

It’s a win-win-win for your budget, your home AND the planet!
