Journey Jots #51
Hello guys and Happy Sunday!
As I’m typing this, it’s Wednesday morning, hours before hurricane Milton is supposed to make landfall in Florida. Who knows what we will wake up to tomorrow (Thursday) but I’m just hoping and wishing and praying that the devastation isn’t like they say it’s going to be.
This photo was taken in January when we were in St. Pete visiting our uncles. Such a stunning, sunny day!
This storm hits particularly close to home because our uncles live in St. Petersburg. They got out of town and headed to a hotel in Orlando this past Monday and I’m SO thankful they did. That part of Florida, with all its old-world charm and beautiful beaches, is such a special place to hubby and myself. It’s just hard when there is literally nothing you can do about it, you know?
So, anyways, let’s all send our love to Florida today and in the weeks and months ahead.
Before we dive in, what’s something good that’s happened in your life lately? I’d love to know in the comments!
Life Lately
It’s been a pretty quiet week around here…really we’ve just been trying to accomplish things while being on pins and needles about the hurricane.
The weather has been gorgeous lately and we’re really starting to see the fall leaf colors! Tilly has been enjoying our daily walks in the cooler temps.
Finally, we’re packing up and heading out of town, once again.
This time with my parent’s, sister, bro-in-law, and of course Molly! We’re headed up to the North Shore tomorrow morning for a 4 day weekend spent in nature. I cannot wait to unplug and disconnect for a few days!
Weekly Shopping Finds- Favorite Fall Stems and Florals
- Leaf stems are always at the top of my list. Check out this gold one and this red one.
- Dried florals are also another favorite. This Willow and Eucalyptus bunch is lovely.
- This preserved brown eucalyptus looks so real…like it was just pulled out of the woods!
- Dried faux wheat is also one of my go-to’s for fall.
- Pampas grass gives that wild and carefree look in any fall vignette or display!
- If moody florals are your thing, this dried Gypsophila is just stunning. These hydrangeas are also perfect for fall!

Thrifted Fall Porch and Patio Decor

I started collecting stoneware years ago when I lived in rural Virginia. The prices were so low I couldn’t resist and ended up with a large collection. Love it mixed with various colors for each season and never run out of ideas to try.
That’s so neat!
How fun to still love your collections all these years later.
Hi Rachel! I’m so glad your uncles got out of town and I hope they didn’t have tons of damage! Hurricane season has been brutal this year! We had minor damage to the exterior of our home but nothing that can’t be easily fixed. I’m behind because we lost the internet for several days but I’ll get caught up eventually! Have fun on your trip!
Me too….SO happy. They actually barely got any damage and we are so thankful. So glad you guys only received minimal damage. We had a super fun weekend…so fun to get away. Enjoy the week!
I’m so thankful your uncles are ok, Rachel! I know it’s hard to be away when things like this are happening. It’s wild to think about how much damage these two storms being so close together have caused. My Mom and I were talking this morning about the level of hurricane fatigue that has hit the state. It’s everywhere and trying to navigate the clean up has been bananas. I’ll be so happy when the season is over and I’m praying for your uncles as they clean up and try to establish a sense of normalcy. It’s not an easy thing to go through. Thank you so much for sharing my cigar box refresh, I really appreciate it. Sending you hugs and thank yous, CoCo PS: Enjoy every minute of your trip!
Thank you…me too!! They, incredibly, received no damage to their home….we’re SO incredibly grateful. Hope you any your family are hanging in there after the hurricanes, too!
