Learn how to create a fall centerpiece with amber bottles and brass!
The fall centerpiece with amber bottles and brass that I’m sharing with you today incorporates many of my favorite fall elements. I’ll walk you through the process of creating a fall centerpiece and share where you can find similar pieces to use in your own home. I’m beyond excited about the fall season ahead and I am so grateful you are here for this journey through autumn!
Early Fall Decorating
Welcome to September! Currently, for my home, I’m all about warm, earthy colors with lots of texture from patterns and natural elements. My soul is craving colors like copper, amber, and greens such as sage and olive, and textures like wheat and dried eucalyptus.
It’s also a beautiful time to use materials such as velvet, corduroy, and plaid.
Table Centerpiece Ideas for Fall
I am so happy to kick off this fall season with my sweet friend Aliya from the blog Open Doors, Open Hearts. Her fall centerpiece, Creating A Fall Harvest Tablescape: Beautiful & Easy, is absolutely stunning! Aliya combines vintage and cottage elements throughout her home with her kitchen being especially spectacular.
She is just the sweetest, most genuine person with a heart of gold. We have teamed up together today to bring you two ideas for creating a fall centerpiece for your home! Be sure to head over to her blog as well to find some beautiful fall inspiration.
Decor Items Used for a Fall Centerpiece

- wood bead garland
How To Create A Fall Centerpiece With Amber Bottles and Brass
The inspiration for this fall decor came from an oversized scarf that I’ve had for many years. The colors in it paired with the plaid design gave me a very intriguing idea for my centerpiece. I went with it to see if I could make it work.
At the very least I could start over if it wasn’t speaking to me. So, I pulled the scarf out from the bottom of my closet and went to work! You can find scarves similar to this one at thrift stores for a few dollars.
Create a Base.
The first thing I did was lay the scarf on top of the linen that was already on the dining table because it was the perfect neutral backdrop. I placed the scarf in a way that was bunched up on the sides but flat in the middle.
Think of the scarf as a base, like a tray or basket. It provides a cohesive area to build the centerpiece on.
Place Height Elements.
Then, I gathered my vintage amber bottle collection as well as four brass candle holders that I thrifted a few years ago. Amber glass mixes beautifully with brass, especially when you mix in natural textures.
You can look for amber jars and vases at antique shops and thrift stores. Those places are where I have had the most luck for affordable prices.
I simply arranged the pieces in a way that made sense to me and looked pleasing to the eye, basically filling in with bottles and brass until the desired look was achieved.
Use an Odd Number of Items.
Not wanting the surface to look too cluttered, I made sure to leave breathing room for the filler and natural elements.
A tip that I have learned over the years is to always decorate or create displays with an odd number of things. I don’t know the science behind it but I do know that a display with three or five items looks so much more pleasing than a display with two or four items.
So, in keeping with that concept, you will see 7 decor pieces in this centerpiece!
Add in Fall Textures.
After all of the main decor pieces were in place, it was time to add in fall textures. Focusing on the bottom layer of the centerpiece first, I wanted to bring in natural elements as well as some pops of color.
To bring in some dimension, I wove this wooden bead garland in and out of the jars and brass. The beads really pop against the dark tones of the amber and brass, creating interest.
Then, to add in natural touches, I sprinkled a mix of acorns and small pinecones throughout the base of the centerpiece. I love the different colors on the acorns, especially the green.
These are the best faux acorns that I’ve ever come across, looking entirely life-like. I also used a few faux leaf stems that had hints of green, yellow and orange in them. I twisted each stem so that they were short enough to fit inside the brass holders.
Incorporate Faux Stems.
The next step was incorporating height with the help of faux stems! I had a whole bunch of fall stems to choose from but I was really envisioning wheat in this display, which I didn’t have. Decorative wheat can get fairly pricey, so I was waiting to see if I could find some on sale.
Funny story…I was randomly looking on Bed Bath and Beyond’s website the other day for something totally unrelated and just happened to stumble upon this fantastic bouquet of wheat. It was on clearance for $4 and was still in stock at my store!
Anyways, I added an odd number of wheat stems to each of the amber bottles. Staggering the heights of stems helps to achieve a natural, fuller looking display, so I focused on one stem at a time, cutting each one to a specific length as I went. I left some of the wheat stems full length to help draw the eye up.
The color of the wheat paired with the amber bottles is just fantastic, lending that vintage aesthetic that I adore.
Arrange Candles.
The last thing to do was to place a taper candle in the tallest brass candlestick. Would I have loved to use a dark or olive green taper candle? One thousand percent yes. Did I have one? Nope.
So, the next best option was to use a white one. Being much too tall for this holder, I made it shorter by cutting the candle in half using a serrated knife! It worked like a charm and snuggles right in to the middle of the display.
